Me, Lagavulin, and a Slide Deck

Me, Lagavulin, and a Slide Deck is now available on all streaming services. Listen using the links below, or head down to the bottom of this post to read the lyrics.

What’s this song all about anyway? Is it a true story? Is it autobiographical?

Although I’ve experienced imposter syndrome before (and even written about it), this song isn’t about me personally. This song takes inspiration from all the people I’ve met through my life and my career that are exceptionally high performers, yet have confessed to having strong feelings of imposter syndrome.

Imposter syndrome surfaces in the most unexpected ways, since in the majority of cases, the people experiencing it are often the best at what they do. These are my people – people that work hard, do their best, and don’t have an ego about what they’re doing.

For all you imposters, this song is for you.

Feel free to leave me a comment about the song, and don’t forget to follow me on your music platform of choice to get notified when I release other new music.

Thanks, and enjoy!

Oh and yes, I do like Lagavulin. One of my favourites.

Lyrics

Late night, blue light
Planning for tomorrow’s stage fright
Screen buzz, mind fuzz
Moving further from the line of sight

It’s me, Lagavulin, and a slide deck
Been 21 hours since I last slept
And when the sun comes up, they’ll learn my secret

Closed eyes, night skies
Clock ticks faster close to sunrise
Babe cries, sleep dies
Seeing red through these bloodshot eyes

It’s me, Lagavulin, and a slide deck
Been 26 hours since I last slept
And now the sun’s come up, they’ll learn my secret

My palms draw sweat, my belly aches
I don’t remember all the takes
The room fills up, and my soul shakes
Those piercing eyes will eat mistakes

My legs go numb and my voice breaks
I know the fall of all the fakes
I can’t go out like this
For heaven’s sakes…

“It needs a little bit of this and that
Add another chart and clean up those graphs
And don’t forget that report of your staff
Let’s meet back here in a week and a half.”

It’s me, Lagavulin, forgetting a slide deck
38 hours since I last slept
And when the sun comes up, I’ll feed my secret
